Whether it’s pushy parents, growing up too fast, drug abuse, the pressures of fame — or usually a heady mix of them all — each time a rosy cheeked kid becomes a troublesome teen we claim to be shocked. Collective amnesia, it would seem.
The Comeback Train…
For every Corey Feldman who sadly doesn’t make it through, you have a Drew Barrymore who kicks the bad habits, and makes comeback of epic proportions. (Yes, I’m taking about Charlie’s Angels!) Anyhow, until recently Lindsay Lohan seemed to be relegated to the more worrisome category. Despite defining a zillion Millennial’s childhoods — playing opposite herself as twins Annie and Hallie in The Parent Trap (she deserved an Oscar for that IMO) — and then later in the iconic 00s teen movie, Mean Girls, she seemed to be beyond reach. However, can you hear a rumbling in the distance? Sounds rather like the comeback train to me…
Yes, Lindsay Lohan is back. She has a Netflix Christmas special in the works. This means even if the film is terrible she’ll be part of the festive cannon forever more. Score! But how did she manage it? Turns out it was with a little help from that South American brew that has become synonymous with ‘fresh starts’ — ayahuasca.
Ayahuasca Is THE Choice
Yep, as I’m sure you’ve noticed, this long-known secret of indigenous South American tribes, has become the spiritual treatment of choice for those who can afford the plane ticket. Ethical dilemmas aside, the sacred brew, which contains naturally occurring DMT, seems to have done the trick for Lohan.
It seems also to have been the just the right moment as well. Having just completed her community service, after 8 years of complex legal battles, the actress felt a sense of accomplishment;
“I don’t think anyone thought I would finish it, that’s why I’m happy.”
I mean, we all saw the many mugshots of Lohan throughout her ‘troubled’ years. But it seems after spending her community service working at a shelter for LGBTQ kids in New York, she was finally ready to address her own demons.
Lohan recently revealed that she travelled to take part in an ayahuasca ceremony presided over by a shaman.
“I did ayahuasca, it changed my life.”
Lohan felt the full regenerative power of the concoction and claims it helped her let go of the “wreckage of my past”. During her experience she saw both her birth and her death. This out-of-body moment made it possible for her to put her previously insurmountable troubles behind her.
Mother Nature Has The Key
Now back in the States, where ayahuasca is still a ‘controlled’ substance, Lohan supplements her psychedelic experience with meditation, and — in true kooky celeb fashion — whole-body cryotherapy. The treatment consists of standing in a chamber filled with liquid nitrogen for between two and four minutes. It is apparently stress relieving — and very, very cold. The extreme temperatures cause the release of endorphins, adrenaline and noradrenaline, boosting your mood. It is also thought to be able to treat migraine symptoms, arthritic pain and nerve irritation.
Once again, a celebrity, who would seemingly have access to the best and most obscure of treatments, is finding that their healing journey begins with the ingestion of something natural and free. A cure that grows from the ground. Like Mike Tyson, Joe Rogan and Kristen Bell, Lindsay Lohan has found that Mother Nature has the facilities to care for those in need. You can keep the cryotherapy though…brrrrrr!
