What is a substrate?

MYCOLOGY

What is a substrate?

A substrate is any medium in which something grows such as a pot of soil or a pile of wood-chippings, in the case of mushrooms they are typically found on anything that is rotting, some dying grass roots or a fallen log from a tree provides the perfect home for a fungus as decomposition of biological matter is typically how mushrooms survive.

Specifically with magic mushrooms, the substrates they prefer are made of sawdust, wood chippings, logs or even grains.

As long as there’s some rot and a little oxygen to go with it, a mushroom will usually be able to thrive, at Wholecelium out substrates are made from grain and rice.
